Justices Hemant Gupta, MR Shah, R Subhash Reddy, Ajay Rastogi were sworn as new judges to Supreme Court.

Justices Hemant Gupta, R Subhash Reddy, Mukesh Kumar Rasikbhai Shah, and Ajay Rastogi were sworn in as the new Judges of Supreme Court on Friday. The swearing-in ceremony started at 10:30 am in court number 1 of the apex court where they took the oath of office by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi. They will remain on their post until they attain the age of 65.

President Ram Nath Kovind appointed these four new judges of SC under Article 124 based on the recommendation of SC Collegium comprising CJI Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Madan B Lokur, Justice Kurian Joseph, Justice A K Sikri, and Justice S A Bobde. With the elevation of these four new judges, the strength has risen from 24 to 28. The apex court has a sanctioned strength of 31 including Chief Justice.

Before this elevation, Justice Gupta was the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court; Justice Rastogi was the Chief Justice of the Tripura High; Justice Shah served as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court and Justice Reddy was the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court.
